Children's shared bedrooms - Decor ideas

Let's face it, it isn't possible for children always to have their own room, so here are some decor ideas to help them personalise their space.

Why not be brave with colour, perhaps having a feature wall. A feature wall is a great way to experiment with bold patterns or colours. However, be sure to highlight the right wall, with something on it you want to highlight, perhaps a painting or furniture. You could also consider a hand painted mural to create an inspired space. Another tip is to have bedding in the same pattern but a different colour for each of the children's beds, with gives their area individuality.

Encourage your children's artistic flair by having them create art for their own bedroom. You could then frame their work and highlight with a mantel light, track light or recessed light. Having their own painting or drawings on display will encourage them to value art , after all as Pablo Picasso famously said " every child is an artist".

3 Top Tips For Tidying and Organising Your Child's Toys

Step 1. First and Foremost, Declutter

Perhaps you're feeling that your children's toys are overwhelming your space. Sort through your children's toys, removing any broken or damaged toys for repair or disposal. Ask your children which toys they don't want anymore and perhaps ask them for suggestions on who to give them to.

Step 2. Labels  'A place for everything and everything in its place'

Find storage solutions and label them. You can use words or pictures or a combination of the two, especially if your little one is not reading yet. This encourages an awareness of letters and words. To make it fun you can ask your child to help you make the labels and put their toys in your storage solutions.

Step 3 Child Friendly Storage Systems

Have attractive, easy to reach storage solutions at low levels so children can access their toys without risking pulling anything down on themselves. When children can reach their toys themselves it fosters independence.

I hit upon the idea of the blog when I decided to start my own business selling luxury handmade children's seating. I decided this was a great opportunity to shine a light on  British retailers selling luxury furnishings and decor to discerning clients in a relaxed online atmosphere. Email me at
